What is endodontics procedure like?

At OrthoVela, we follow a precise protocol to ensure safe and comfortable treatments for our patients:

A clinical examination and X-rays are performed to determine the extent of the tooth’s damage and plan treatment.

The damaged pulp is removed, and the root canals are carefully cleaned to eliminate bacteria and infection.

Once the area has been disinfected, the root canals are filled and sealed to protect the tooth and prevent future complications.

Depending on the case, it may be necessary to place a resin filling or a dental crown to restore the strength and function of the treated tooth.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Thanks to the use of local anesthesia and modern techniques, a root canal is a comfortable procedure for most patients. In fact, one of its main goals is to relieve the pain caused by an infection or inflammation inside the tooth.

The duration of the treatment depends on the complexity of each case and the condition of the affected tooth. For many patients, a root canal can be completed in a single appointment, although some cases may require more than one session to ensure proper cleaning and sealing.

A root canal is usually necessary when the dental pulp is damaged or infected due to deep cavities, trauma, fractures, or infections. Some common symptoms include severe pain, sensitivity to hot or cold, swollen gums, and discomfort when chewing.

It is normal to experience slight sensitivity during the first few days after treatment. Once the procedure is complete and the appropriate restoration is in place, the tooth can regain its functionality and continue to function normally.

Whenever possible, preserving the natural tooth is the most recommended option. An endodontics allows you to eliminate the infection and save the tooth, avoiding more complex treatments such as implants or dentures.

With proper oral hygiene and regular visits to the dentist, a tooth that has undergone root canal treatment can remain in good condition for many years and may even last a patient a lifetime.

If you experience persistent tooth pain, prolonged sensitivity, gum swelling, or notice changes in the color of a tooth, it’s important to see a specialist for an evaluation. At OrthoVela, we provide a personalized diagnosis to determine whether an endodontics is the most appropriate treatment to preserve your oral health.
